There are moments in a photographer’s journey that stand out as sweet triumphs, and being honored with the feature of my Snowflake Princess cake smash session in Inspired Magazine is undoubtedly one of them. The National Association of Professional Child Photographers is an association whose mission is to promote and support the artistry and integrity of professional child photographers and I’m incredibly proud and excited to be a featured artist in their December issue of Inspired. Being featured in Inspired Magazine is not just a personal achievement but a recognition of the shared passion for child photography within the NAPCP community. I can not expresses how honored I am to have my work showcased in a publication that celebrates the artistry and storytelling of child photographers. As an artist, being recognized by peers and industry professionals is a humbling experience and one I will always cherish.
The submission theme for December was Bokeh, which is the beautiful out-of-focus blur in a photograph. I knew that the sparkling lights of my cake smash session, coupled with the precious rosy cheeks and sweet smile of baby girl, was the perfect submission. Cake smash sessions themselves are, actually, very quick. They usually last about 30 minutes before baby is all done and mom or dad, or both, are also completely covered in cake. Creating the session, however, takes a lot of meticulous planning to be sure the set is designed to make my clients’ dreams come true, the perfect outfit has been coordinated, the fairy lights are placed in the most magical way and my studio light is set to capture that magazine worthy bokeh you see in this image.
Cake smash sessions hold a special place in the realm of child photography and my personal passion as they capture the sheer delight and unbridled joy of little ones as they interact with their first birthday cake. The journey from a simple cake smash session to the glossy pages of Inspired Magazine has been a thrilling ride. I have been a newborn and child photographer in the Dripping Springs area for over 12 years and have worked on my art by studying with the top photographers in their fields, researching online education and, most importantly, by giving my very best to my Dripping Springs, TX clients. I could not take beautiful pictures without my client’s beautiful babies. My own kiddos are grown or almost grown so I know how fast time can fly by in a child’s life. I am still astounded as I watch some of my newborn babies grow into the beautiful children I get to photograph over the years. Being a cake smash photographer in a close-knit community like Dripping Springs allows for meaningful connections with families. From capturing the first tentative touch of frosting to the exuberant moments of cake-induced joy, I strive to create images that tell the story of a child’s first birthday in the heart of Dripping Springs. It’s a reminder that in the world of photography, every session, every click, is a unique celebration of life’s moments. As I savor this sweet triumph, I carry with me the joy of freezing time through my lens and the gratitude for the opportunity to share that joy with a broader audience through Inspired Magazine.
